The Local Government Development Foundation (LOGODEF), a Manila-based non-stock, non-profit organization, was established on March 21, 1989. We are a development organization and a major institutional partner of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) whose primary aim is to strengthen local authorities and promote local governance in the country hence the axiom “good governance is local governance”.
LOGODEF has worked closely with other international development organizations such as follows:
1.) the European Union (EU);
2.) the United Nations Development Program (UNDP);
3.) Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA);
4.) the Asian Development Bank (ADB); and
5.) the Asia Foundation
We have also done with the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) in the Philippines, the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) based in Ottawa, Canada, and the International Center for Environmental Technology Transfer (ICETT) of Japan. We are one of the institutional co-operators of the United Cities and Local Governments in Asia Pacific (UCLG-ASPAC) based in Jakarta, Indonesia.
In 2005, LOGODEF collaborated with the Asian Institute of technology (AIT) in Pathumthani, Thailand and the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) to be part of an institutional network in the Asia Pacific region on the promotion of environmental management related to the Southeast Asia Urban Environmental Application Project (SEA-UEMA).
With our primary objective of promoting local governance in the country, we have been active in various interdependent activities of capacity building, research and development, as well as advocacy and lobbying. We do our work in close coordination with the various local government stakeholders in the country especially the leagues, the Department of Interior and Local Government, and other national government agencies with related functions and the policy-making bodies, including the academe and civil society. Because of this, we have been instrumental in the formation of the Philippine Consortium on Good Local Governance (PCGLG), which is an alliance of local government stakeholder in the country established in 2009.
