On 24 August 2018, Consultative Committee to Review the 1987 Constitution (ConCom) members former Senate President Aquilino “Nene” Pimentel, Jr. and Prof. Edmund Tayao were invited on “Let’s Get FedeREAL: A Lecture Series on the Proposed Charter Change”, an three-day lecture series on Federalism organized by the Polytechnic University of the Philippines’ (PUP) Circle of Public Administration and Governance Students (CPAGS), and the College of Political Science and Public Administration Student Council (CPSPA SC). It was held at PUP’s Manila Room, M.H. Del Pilar Campus in Manila City.Prof. Tayao in his presentation “Federalism and Economics” discussed the imperatives of Federalism in the Philippines by comparing and contrasting the country’s current situation to that of other federal countries. The discussion covered the political, administrative and economic aspects issues that can only be resolve by changing the system.
Former Senator Pimentel presented the “Bayanihan Federalism”, the proposed Federal Constitution drafted by the Consultative Committee. After the presentations of both Concom members, there was an open forum where students of Public Administration from different universities and colleges in Metro Manila freely asked their questions. The lecture ended with the distribution of books on federalism published by the Pimentel Institute for Leadership and Governance (PILG).
