Members of the Consultative Committee to Review the 1987 Constitution (ConCom) attended and participated in a 2-day event of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Forum of Federations entitled “Conference on Managing Devolved Transition in the Philippines” from June 8 to 9 at the Las Monumental Function Hall of Berjaya Hotel in Makati City.
The members of the Consultative Committee informed the foreign expert of the developments in ConCom. There was an exchange of ideas as ConCom members paneled on each of the foreign guests presentations on the experiences of various countries on federalism.
In the first day, the decentralization of the Philippines was discussed by ConCom member and LOGODEF Executive Director Prof. Edmund Tayao. Federalism in Brazil and Kenya are discussed by Ms. Monica Mora and Commissioner Rose Osoro, respectively. In the second day of the conference, Mr. Roger Wilkins discussed federalism in Australia, while Ms. Monica Mora and Commissioner Rose Osoro discussed fiscal decentralization in Brazil and Kenya.
