On May 18 2018, members of the Consultative Committee to Review the 1987 Constitution (ConCom) were invited to present in a forum organized by the Provincial Governments of Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental entitled “Symposium on Federalization: Negrosanon Federated Region” at Sugarland Hotel Ballroom in Bacolod City. Present at the event are members of media, the business sector, the academe, mayors from the two provinces of the Negros Island, including the Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon, Jr. and Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo.
The audience were very pleased with the announcement of Prof. Edmund Tayao that the Consultative Committee has agreed to have the two Negros provinces merge into one Negrosanon Federated Region. Prof. Tayao also discussed the federated regions, powers and possible structural options.
Also at the event as resource speakers are Concom members Dr. Julio Teehankee who discussed the “Proposed Structure of the Federal Republic and Political Reforms”, Atty. Susan Ubalde-Ordinario who discussed the proposed amendment on the “Judiciary and Constitutional Amendments”, Prof. Eddie Alih who presented the proposed changes on the “Bill of Rights and Bangsamoro and Other Provisions”, and Mr. Arthur Aguilar for the “Economic Provisions and Negrosanon Federated Region.”
The presentations were then followed by an open forum where participants from various sectors show support and interest to the proposed “One Negros.”
