The 8th batch of the Konrad Adenauer School for Young Politicians had its 2nd training session as part of its programme course for the year 2017-2018. Held at Sheraton Penang, Malaysia, KAS-Singapore gathered local governance experts from Asia, and the local officials of Malaysia to run an exchange of academic and local experiences.
The pool of experts and notable guests was composed of Hon. Mr Sim Tze Tzin, Hon. Dr Afif Baharadin, Hon. Ms Yap Soo Huey from the National Parliament, Mayor Dato’ Maimunah Mohd Sharif of Penang, Ms. Shariza Kamarudin of the PWDC, Prof Edmund Tayao of the LOGODEF, Dr Caroline Brassard of the Lee Kuan Yeu Institute of Public Policy, and Hon. Muhammad Giri Ramanda Nazaputra Kiemas, Chief of House Sumatra House of Representatives in Indonesia.
Apart from political dialogues, discussions on local governance, and the state of decentralization in Asia, a heavy discussion on Disaster Risk Reduction Management was provided by Dr. Caroline Brassard in light of the disaster prone feature of Asian countries.
