Last 17–21 April 2017, LOGODEF conducted a 5-day Basic Geographic Information System (GIS) training to the local government of Imus City, Cavite. The training was facilitated by LOGODEF, and GIS consultants, Mr. Benjamin Balais, Mr. Eriberto Brillantes, and Mr. Marlon Mariñas. It was attended by various departments of the Imus City government;most especially from the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, City Planning and Development Office, Assessor’s Office, City Information Technology Office, and the City Engineering Office.
Prior to the GIS training course, the LGU had difficulties in synthesizing mapping efforts, having only used various photo-editing softwares. The 5-day training session not only capacitated the planning arms of the LGU, but also highlighted the relevance of mapping to other department offices such as the Assessor’s office. Moreover, the training emphasized the importance of inter-departmental cooperation in the local government unit, especially with data management, and comprehensive planning.
At the end of the week-long training, the trainees presented their maps as an output of the GIS course, having an audience with the Mayor’s office, and the department heads of the LGU. The course received an overwhelming positive response from the LGU officials towards the closing of the event. As pointed out by the participants of the course, “Everything is possible with GIS-Manifold”.
