The Office of Senate President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III and the PDP Laban Federalism Institute organized a forum on federalism at the Senate of the Philippines on 23 January 2016. Prof. Edmund Tayao of LOGODEF discussed the imperatives of political reform and the evolving model of Philippine federalism of the PDP Laban Federalism Institute Study Groups. Dr. Nicole Toepperwein, a Swiss expert and adviser on federalism, provided a comparative international perspective on federalism and its prospects in the Philippines. TWG Senate Committee on Local Government

TWG Session of the Senate Committee on Local Government

Last 19 January 2017, LOGODEF was invited to the Technical Working Group (TWG) session of the Senate Committee on Local Government held at the Sen. Laurel Room at the Senate of the Philippines. The TWG was presided over by Atty. Homer Alinsug as Chair of the Committee in the absence of Senator Edgardo ‘Sonny’ Angara. The TWG was composed of members from relevant NGAs, GOCCs, and NGOs, some notable members of the committee were not able to attend the session such as BIR and representatives from the Leagues; hence parts of the issues discussed in the agenda were left untouched.

Assessment and Coordination Meeting on Federalism Initiative Project

An assessment meeting on federalism was held last 16 January 2017 at the Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS), Quezon Ave., Quezon City. Members of the PDP Laban Federalism Institute Study Groups attended the said meeting including representatives from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Development Alternatives Incorporated (DAI)-Facilitating Public Investment (FPI), Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP), The Asia Foundation (TAF) and Office of the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
