LOGODEF conducted a three-day trip from May 28 to 31 to meet with Camiguin Governor-elect Jurdin Jesus ‘JJ’ Romualdo and some local government officials of the 5 municipalities as well as planning personnel of the province.
The purpose of the exploratory talks was to discuss potential partnership on a climate change intervention to be spearheaded by the Foundation in the province.
The island province of Camiguin was chosen as pilot since it is highly vulnerable to almost all types of disasters. In relation to this undertaking, the Foundation is also interested to know the instinctively developed programs on disaster mitigation and climate change adaptation.
The climate change intervention will ideally offshoot from an initial phase devoted to gathering all policies/plans/programs related to climate changes in Camiguin and in the five municipalities: Mahinog, Mambajao, Catarman, Sagay, and Guinsiliban. After collection of this data, LOGODEF will embark at a policy/program inventory and assessment through the help from an outsourced consultant. Once done, LOGODEF will formulate and develop a template which will be used in assessing the existing policies & programs. The template will also serve as guide for integration. After the template has been established, the draft will be presented at a national conference to solicit significant recommendations and complementing viewpoints from key stakeholders from various national government agencies, academe, civil society organizations, and other local government units.
