Members of the Inter-Municipal Teams in Misamis Oriental attended an intensive session on Geographic Information System (GIS) conducted by NAMRIA’s Eric Brillantes and Benjie Balais last 22 – 26 April at the Hotel Conchita in Cagayan de Oro City.
The training session, already the fifth installment, strengthened the capacity of participants in Basic Land Classification mapping and Generation of Watershed boundaries using digital elevation model. Participants were also able to prepare hazard maps by using information on local topography, satellite imageries, administrative boundaries, land use data and local river systems. Among the municipal clusters that partook in the training are Balingoan-Medina-Talisayan (BMT), Manticao-Lugait-Naawan (ManLuNa), Binuangan-Kinoguitan-Sugbongcogon (BinKiSu), Initao-Laguindingan-Guitagum (ILG) and Alubijid-Libertad-ElSalvador-Opol (ALEO) Clusters.
LOGODEF initiated these measures designed to capacitate LGU’s especially in coming in terms with the challenges of the continuous improvement in technology and delivery of services through better data management. Combined with trainings on comprehensive planning, LGUs are posed to perform functions to not only increase their revenue generating powers but more importantly, provide better services to their constituents. Comprehensive planning utilizing GIS’s digital database are expected to promote efficient resource allocation, management and utility.
